Attentat de Nice ! (Day 15)

Our apartment is approximately 5 miles east of the deadly July 14 Fête Nationale attack in Nice.  We went to sleep right about the time the attack was underway, without any knowledge of what was occuring so close by.

Our first indication that something had happened were the numerous texts and emails that came in overnight while we slept asking if we were OK.

Stunned and shocked, we watched television and read the same reports as the rest of the world.  All four of us had walked along the Promenade des Anglais in Nice barely a week earlier, so we all had that feeling of personal connection.  How easy it would have been for us to have been part of the Nice crowd, just as we were part of the Villfranche-sur-mer crowd the previous night.  How fateful can be such seemingly inconsequential decisions.

We offer our deepest condolences to all the victims, families and friends of this latest senseless tragedy.  End of post.
